2 wanted NPA rebels nabbed

TWO wanted New People’s Army rebels are now under the custody of the Philippine National Police Intelligence Group following their arrest in two separate operations in the countryside, PNP-IG director, Brigadier General Edgar S. Monsalve announced yesterday.

The official identified the two as Gina Ciano and Jonie Calaba.

In a report to PNP Officer-in-Charge, Lieutenant General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa, the PNP-IG director said that Ciano was arrested in Barangay Sangay in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat by members of the Regional Intelligence Unit 12 with the help of officers from the Army’s 37th Infantry Battalion and the Sultan Kudarat Police Provincial Office early morning last Monday.

Monsalve said that the suspect who is a known member of the Center for Lumad Advocacy Networking Services or CLANS operating under the CPP/NPA’s Field Southern Mindanao Regional Committee is the subject of a warrant of arrest for murder and nine counts of frustrated murder.

“She is listed as the no. 3 most wanted person in Sultan Kudarat prior to her arrest,” said the official.

On the other hand, Monsalve said that Calaba was arrested on the strength of a warrant for arson by members of the RIU12 with the assistance of troopers from the Army’s 27th and 37th IB, the Sarangani Police Provincial Office and the Maitum Municipal Police Station in Purok 5, Bgy. Zion in Maitum town at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.
