AROUND 21 male individuals, including three minors, were apprehended by authorities for illegal gambling during a raid on a wake yesterday before dawn in Caloocan City.
Joint elements of Caloocan Police Sub-Station 15 and barangay officials conducted the operation at the wake of a certain Richard Dela Torre at 35 Lanka St., Pangarap Village, Bgy. 181, following a tip from concerned citizen that attendees of the wake used the dead as opportunity to hold gambling session locally known as cara y cruz.
While several individuals managed to scamper in different direction when the raid was conducted at around 1 a.m., policemen were able to apprehend 21 of them, mostly residents of Pangarap Village in Bgy.18, including three 17-year-old minors.
Caloocan police chief P/Col. Dario Menor said his men were able to confiscate a total of P3,995 bet money in different denomination and three pieces of peso coin used as flippers or “pangara”
The arrested suspects were presented to Caloocan City Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceedings on charges for violating Presidential Decree 1602 or illegal gambling while the three minors were turned over to local Social Welfare Department.
