THREE young boys, including a 17-year-old minor, were arrested after they took turns in mauling and stabbing a 40-year-old driver who tried to intervene in defense of his niece who was allegedly being bullied by the suspects before dawn yesterday in Navotas city.
Navotas police chief P/Col. Rolly Balasabas identified the arrested suspects as Jason Baguin, 18, Lawrence Egaña, 19 and the 17-year-old minor who was later turned over to the custody of City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) for proper disposition.
Investigation showed that at around 12:30 a.m., Darwin Deriada was already resting inside his house at 1070 Chungkang St. Bgy. Tanza 1 when he heard a commotion outside.
When he went out to check, he saw his 17-year-old niece Jane Hazel Dariada while engaging in a heated altercation with the three young boys who were allegedly bullying her which prompted him to intervene.
However, Baguin, who was armed with a piece of wood, struck Dariada in his head while the minor suspect pulled out a bladed weapon and stabbed him in the hip. Egaña aided his companions in mauling the victim.
The suspects immediately fled when the victim fell bloodied on the pavement. He was rushed by his niece and concerned neighbors to the hospital.
