MANILA Mayor Isko Moreno has announced that three coronavirus patients at the Manila Infectious Disease Center (MIDC) in Sta. Ana Hospital (SAH) have recovered, although the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise.
Moreno said that a doctor from Manila who also serves in the city has unfortunately died from the virus.
The mayor said the total number of COVID patients in the city is now 75, following the latest addition of five while the persons under investigation or PUIs is 271 with 31 as latest addition. Moreno is on self-quarantine after having interaction with MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia and a local official who both were positive for COVID 19.
Moreno said 33 rooms at the ninth floor are now being readied to be added to the MIDC which is located at the tenth floor as per his directive to hospital director Dr. Grace Padilla, since the center is almost full now, like all other public and private hospitals in the city.
Meanwhile, Moreno had talked to Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna for the possibility of using the Del Pan Evacuation Center as a temporary holding area for PUIs in case hospitals in Manila become really full. Lacuna, a doctor, is in charge of the six city hospitals.
As of Tuesday night, the city government of Manila delivered 153,450 food packs, with 10,000 coming from the DSWD while the rest from the city government.
Moreno asked for patience and understanding, citing the city population with one barangay having thousands of families anywhere from 7,000 to 24,000 families.
He also said that while there is no problem with money and plans and people to repack food relief since they were able to plan way ahead and now operate 24-7, the problem lies with supplies since production has been affected by workers not being able to come to work.
Because of this, Moreno said he appeals for donations in the form of rice and canned goods so that they can continue delivering the food packs while waiting for the supplies they ordered.
“Hinihingi ko ang inyong pasensiya at pang-unawa. These are the things I am not in control of. Kahit di kami matulog kung nandiyan sa bodega namin (supplies), dadating sa bahay nýo. Dahil madami di nakakapasok so apektado ang production. These are the things for which this country is not ready… the world is not ready,” he said.
