THREE key officials of the Manila city government have been detected as positive for COVID-19 over the weekend.
This was bared by Mayor Isko Moreno at the flag-raising ceremony of the Manila City Hall yesterday, as he once again called on the public to practice due diligence and basic health protocols to at least raise the probability of being safe.
“Today is the saddest day… three of our key officials were infected.
This shows that nobody is excused from the deadly virus,” Moreno said, even citing that city administrator Felix Espiritu was in fact one of the early patients who fortunately survived.
Moreno also said that he and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna were once again exposed since they have interaction with the infected officials day in, day out, but that they were lucky that they were negative when they underwent swab testing also over the weekend.
According to Moreno, it was the third time that he had been exposed to a virus carrier and swabbed with negative result.
“Nandiyan po si COVID hinihintay po tayo. ‘Wag ninyong hayaan na malagay kayo sa alanganin, It’s really dangerous and we really have to take care of ourselves. Simple lang, wear your mask, wash your hands, keep particular distance, stay home as much as possible and practice due diligence,” the mayor said.
Meanwhile, Moreno lauded the role of the Manila Health Department (MHD) under Dr. Arnold Pangan, in the city government’s fight against COVID-19.
The MHD, which celebrated its anniversary yesterday, is at the forefront of the city’s efforts to contain the coronavirus, actively conducting rapid tests and continuously implementing other health programs not related to COVID-19.
