600 families homeless after Makati fire

AT least 600 families were left homeless while three were reported injured after a fire destroyed their houses yesterday before dawn in Laperal Compound, Makati City.

A report received by Makati city fire marshal Supt. Roy Quisto showed that the fire struck at the third floor of a room being occupied by Angelica Padilla at No. 4050 Laperal Compound, in Bgy. Guadalupe Viejo. The fire quickly spread to adjacent houses mostly made of light materials on Bernardino and Romero Streets.

The injured victims were identified as Rodido Villafrana, Manuel Mojaica, and Miguela Burce who suffered lacerations and swelling of the eyes.

Supt. Quisto said the fire lasted more than four hours before it was declared under control at around 5:26 a.m. Damage  to property was estimated at P10 million.

Meanwhile, Makati Mayor Abby Binay has ordered the Makati Social Welfare Department (MSWD) to provide prompt assistance to fire victims who have been temporarily sheltered at the Nuestra Señora de Gracia Church in the barangay.
