NINE illegal foreigners arrested recently during back-to-back operations in the cities of Pasay and Manila for working in the country without permits are set to be deported by the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
BI Intelligence chief Jun Manahan stated in his report to Commissioner Jaime Morente that four of the aliens were arrested last October 26 inside the Manila City Plaza mall in Quiapo, Manila while the rest were apprehended on the same day at the Two Shopping Center in Pasay.
Those arrested at the Quiapo mall were identified as Cai Shaoqiu, Cai Shengfeng, Tian Chang-sheng and She Lijuan, while those collared in the Pasay raid were Lin Manyi, Zeng Xinfu, Xiao Jinxiang, Zhang Yang Sheng and Chichi Zhuang.
They were all caught in the act of selling retail goods to the public by BI Intelligence operatives and most of them were found to be undocumented and failed to present their immigration documents.
It was learned that during the check, one of them even presented a counterfeit immigration document, while another is suspected to have assumed someone else’s identity as he had no record of arrival.
Manahan said the arrested foreigners will be deported for blatantly violating our immigration laws, stressing that foreigners are prohibited in engaging in any gainful activity without the proper visas, as this deprives small Filipino traders of livelihood opportunities.
The said aliens are now undergoing proceedings before the BI’s Board of Commissioners after they were charged for violating the country’s immigration laws.
