THE Manila Police District (MPD) official who was accused by three rookie policemen of physical harm at the height of the ‘Traslacion’ last January 9 had been relieved from his position.
Chief Inspector. Alden Panganiban, formerly deputy commander of the Gandara Police Community Precinct under MPD-Station 11, is reportedly now on floating status after he was charged with conduct unbecoming of an officer and grave abuse of authority by the three policemen from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
The three complained that Panganiban hit their hands with a wooden club when they failed to push back the huge crowds of devotees as he had ordered.
The names of the said policemen from the Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit at Regional Support Unit of the NCRPO are being withheld pending an investigation into the matter.
It was learned that the alleged incident took place at around 6 a.m. near the Quirino Grandstand.
The three cops claimed that they ended up with swollen hands and that the incident was witnessed by a lot of people.
Panganiban allegedly ordered them to remove a barricade on Jones Bridge but the policemen reportedly refused to budge, saying they needed to inform their officers and get clearance first.
