THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) placed their forces on red alert status nationwide in support to the security measure prepared by the Philippine National Police (PNP) in today’s State of the Nation Address ( SONA) of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
AFP Public Affairs Office (PAO) Chief Colonel Noel Detoyato said the red alert status started since Friday.
“As part of its efforts to ensure the success of this year’s SONA, the AFP has raised its alert status to Red since Friday morning.” Detoyato said.
Red alert status will require all troops nationwide to be on standby mode ready to be dispatched to support the PNP in their preparation.
“This shall require its troops to be on standby mode ready for dispatch to support the Philippine National Police (PNP) which is leading security efforts during the occasion. “ Detoyato said.
In line with this, Detoyato said the AFP has not monitored any threat on the event.
“The AFP will continue to be alert particularly in Metro Manila to thwart any possible untoward incident” Detoyato said.
“While the AFP has not monitored any threat from local terrorist groups, its forces will continue to be on a proactive stance against all threats of violence and will exert every effort to be ready to preserve the peace, particularly in the National Capital Region (NCR) where the seat of the government is in” Detoyato explained.
In line with this, the AFP called on the public to report any suspicious individuals and activities in their surrounding.
“The fight against terrorism and the preservation of peace are a shared responsibility of everyone so we should all do our part in this whole of nation approach towards peace and development.” Detoyato said.
