A SUSPECTED “akyat bahay” thief was killed Saturday morning after he fought with members of the Marikina Police while his cohort escaped.
Police Col. Restituto Arcangel, Marikina Police chief, said they are still verifying the identity of the slain suspect who died on the spot from gunshot wounds.
His luckier cohort escaped.
Initial investigation showed that members of the Station Special Operations Unit spotted two suspicious men trying to enter a house on Falcon Street in Bgy San Roque at around 2:15 a.m.
“Both men were ‘akyat-bahay’ suspects,” Arcangel said.
Prior to the shooting incident, police were at the area conducting a surveillance in another case when they chanced upon the suspected housebreakers.
The cops then approached them but the duo suddenly drew out handguns and fired, police said.
The operatives retaliated, killing one of the suspects.
Probers recovered from the scene a caliber .38 revolver loaded with four bullets, two fired cartridge cases, and three fired slugs of caliber 9mm.
Police also recovered a black sling bag containing a fan knife and cellphones.
