ANOTHER officer of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) was shot dead in a daring ambush Monday afternoon near a public market in Muntinlupa City.
Chief Insp. Angelito Padilla was declared dead at around 8:16 p.m. while undergoing treatment at Medical Center Muntinlupa due to bullet wounds in the head and body.
Padilla was the second BuCor official killed in Muntinlupa City this year. Last September 2, Insp. Romel Reyes, 41, assigned at the Bureau of Reservation Security Service (BRSS) was shot dead by unidentified gunmen aboard a motorcycle near Sunken Garden of New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Bgy. Poblacion.
Acting Southern Police District (SPD) director Senior Supt. Eliseo Cruz said Padilla was driving a Nissan Sentra (UUT-221) at around 3:10 p.m. and traversing along Katihan St in Bgy. Poblacion when riding-in-tandem criminals shot him four times upon reaching the Poblacion Public Market. The incident was captured by a close circuit television (CCTV) camera installed in the area.
Senior Supt. Cruz said the victim just came from the NBP where he was assigned when the suspects tailed him and shot repeatedly before reaching the public market.
Muntinlupa police chief Senior Supt. Gerardo Umayao said a follow-up operation for possible identification and arrest of the suspects are still ongoing while the motive for the killing is yet to be determined.
