A MEMBER of the Eastern Police District wanted for a robbery-extortion and estafa case was arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police Counter-Intelligence Task Force early morning yesterday, PNP-CITF director, Senior Superintendent Romeo M. Caramat Jr. said.
In a report to PNP chief, Director General Oscar D. Albayalde, the official identified the suspect as Police Officer 2 Edgar Bautista Santos. He said that the accused was arrested while on duty on the strength of a warrant of arrest for estafa issued by Judge Don Ace Mariano Alagar of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 42 last January 28.
It turned out that the suspect was charged with estafa in connection with a P1 million vehicle franchise case. He was charged in court after he reneged on his promise to the complainant/s to deliver the vehicle franchise as they previously agreed.
Caramat said that PO2 Bautista is also one of the suspects in a foiled entrapment operation conducted by his men in Marikina City last December 10. The sting was launched by the PNP-CITF amid a complaint from one Mrs. Rosanna Lozada who accused the suspect and his companions as having demanded P100,000 from her.
As a result, a criminal case for robbery-extortion was filed against the suspect before the Department of Justice last January 3. The case is now the subject of a pending DoJ preliminary investigation.
Caramat said that the suspect was immediately taken to the PNP-CITF headquarters in Camp Crame for booking pending his presentation to court.
