PHILIPPINE National Police chief, Director General Oscar D. Albayalde yesterday stressed that the proposed Anti-Communist Task Force is an unarmed unit and is created to help the government convince New People’s Army rebels to surrender and return to the mainstream of society.
“Noon pa ‘yan pero basically it’s in support of localized peace talks, kasi nag-bogged down ang peace talks in the national level,” Albayalde said.
Albayalde pointed ut that the task force will be composed of people who will perform community-relations activities to convince NPA members to yield to authorities.
“Hindi ‘yan armed component. It’s just part of the whole of government approach to arrest the insurgency problem,” the PNP chief explained.
