BoC foils parcel with cash in smuggle try

THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport intercepted a package containing cash declared as “personal documents” at the FedEx warehouse in Pasay City.

NAIA customs district collector Mimel Talusan said the seized parcel containing some US$15,700 cash (more or less P800,000) foreign currency came from Durham, USA and consigned to a Paranaque resident when discovered through a comprehensive x-ray scan.

The seized foreign currency shall be subjected to seizure and forfeiture proceedings for violation of Sections 1400 and 1113 of R.A. No. 10863 (CMTA) in relation to the New Central Bank Act and BSP Foreign Exchange Transaction Manual.

BOC-NAIA warned anew unscrupulous individuals attempting to smuggle money into the country.

Talusan said money entering the country illegally and without proper declaration are often used as resources to finance illegal and unlawful activities.
