BoC nabs Indonesian cocaine courier

ALERT members of the Bureau of Customs arrested an Indonesian national in possession of some 1.6 kilos of suspected cocaine worth P8.7 million on Wednesday evening at the Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.

BoC-NAIA District Collector Mimel Talusan identified the suspect as Agus Burhan, 62, who arrived on  a Qatar Airlines flight.

Talusan said the suspect was about to retrieve his baggage at the carousel of the NAIA Terminal 3 when he was arrested by members of the X-ray and Scanning Unit headed by Atty. Lourdes Mangaong.

A random inspection was immediately conducted at the NAIA-T3 arrival area with the help of K9 sniffing dogs and found the drugs in Burhan’s baggage.

Based on the suspect’s travel records, he went to Lima, Peru allegedly to picked-up the cocaine. From there, he made a stop-over in Madrid, Spain, then proceeded to Doha, Qatar, enroute to Manila.

The suspect said he was only asked to bring the baggage containing gifts. He did not identify the sender.
