Boy finds backpack with improvised explosive device in Tondo

A backpack containing an improvised explosive device and a bullet was found  by a seven-year-old boy in the middle of a street in Tondo, Manila the other night.              

Inspector Arnold Yanga of the Manila Police District-Station 1 said that at aroud 9 a.m., their office received a call from a security guard who reported that a boy had found the said bag at the corner of R-10 and Capulong Street in Tondo.   

Operatives from the MPD-Explosive and Ordnance Division (EOD) immediately responded and when the said bag was checked, it was found to have contained assosrted bullets and an M2 fragmentation hand grenade placed inside a plastic bottle.                                                                                                                

The security guard told the police that he saw the boy holding the grenade so he immediately took it away from him.  The boy is said to be a scavenger.             

The police are now investigating to establish ownership of the said bag.             

Meanwhile, the EOD said that had the grenade exploded, it would have killed many.
