Carnapper stops in front of Manila Police District, held

January 08, 2019

AN alleged carnapper was arrested after he made the mistake of stopping in front of the Manila Police District-Anti Carnapping Unit during traffic on United Nations Avenue in Ermita, Manila the other day.

The suspect, identified as James Ronald Otero, 49, a taxi driver residing in Paranaque City, had been charged accordingly.

Prior to his arrest, it was learned that taxi operator Cymberline Del Fierro lodged a complaint at the MPD headquarters, accusing the suspect of taking his cab at around 5:30 p.m. of December 30.

A search had just been launched by anti-carnapping operatives when they saw the cab get caught up in traffic as they headed out of the headquarters.

The suspect was thus directed to drive into the MPD headquarters and he was positively identified by the complainant, who told the police that the suspect was merely a reliever when the regular driver failed to report for work.

The suspect, who was said to have been recommended by company dispatcher Maximo Boltron, disappeared along with the cab that was assigned to him, prompting the complainant to seek police help.

Police said that on verification, the suspect’s records show that he had been previously arrested for the same offense way back in 2016.
