A POLICEMAN, his wife and two children were charred beyond recognition after they were trapped inside their burning house early yesterday morning in Marikina City.
Supt. Randolph Bides, chief of Marikina City Bureau of Fire and Protection, identified the casualties as Police Officer 3 Romar Sumait, 27, assigned at PNP Crame Crime Laboratory; his wife Rose, 27, and children Kaizer Lee, 6, and Kenzie Fae, 3.
The victims were found at the first and second floor of their house located on Col. Divino St., in Bgy, Sto Niño, Marikina City.
Bides said the blaze struck at around 2:47 a.m. at the kitchen of the Signature Burgers store located at No.15 Col Divino which was adjacent to the victim’s house. The door connecting the victims’ house and the burger store was only covered up with wood and was immediately engulfed by the fire.
“The barangay watchmen told us that the victims were calling for help during the fire. They can’t get out of their house because all their windows have metal grills,” Bides said.
One of the couple was found with one of the children on the second floor. The other parent was found inside a room embracing the other child.
The BFP said an electrical short circuit from the kitchen of “Signature Burger” possibly started the fire but Vides said they are still completing the investigation of the incident.
Meanwhile, Lorenzo Primavera, 53, of No. 88 Virginio St. Coloong II, died of heart attack after his stall was destroyed by fire yesterday before dawn in Valenzuela City.
Valenzuela police chief Senior Supt. David Nicolas Poklay said the fire struck at around 3:38 a.m. at the Polo Public Market on Sebastian Street, Bgy. Polo, Valenzuela City.
Fire Senior Insp. Nelson Dublin said arson investigators are still investigating the cause of the blaze that destroyed four stalls.
