A POLICE officer was shot and wounded by the alleged leader of a group of youth offenders inside a barangay hall Friday evening in Navotas City.
Navotas police chief P/Col. Rolando Balasabas said P/Cpl. Mark Jhon Abiva, 31, of Bagong Barrio, Brgy. San Jose was rushed to Tondo Medical Center for treatment of gunshot wounds in the left shoulder and right hand.
Col. Balasabas said the 17-year-old suspect identified as Kian Anthony Robles alias “Kian Santiago” of 14 Alley 7, San Rafael St. Brgy. Sipac Almacen managed to escape and is now the object of a police manhunt.
Homicide investigator P/Cpl. Filbert Madio said the victim together with his buddy Cpl. Christopher Binuhe were performing their duties as “Pulis sa Barangay” inside the barangay hall of Sipac Almacen when the suspect, armed with unknown caliber of firearm, suddenly barged inside at around 11:20 and shot the police officer, then immediately fled.
Cpl. Abiva, although wounded, and Cpl. Binuhe tried to chase the suspect but when the latter noticed his bloodied buddy, he sought the assistance of barangay tanod Sheryl Luciano in bringing the victim to the nearest hospital.
Col. Balasabas said the suspect, who is involved in several petty crimes in Brgy. Sipac Almacen, had been caught violating city ordinances by the police and barangay officers conducting Oplan Galugad.
Police said one of the members of the group was recently arrested by Cpl. Abiva and was charged with alarm and scandal.
Investigators believed that the attack on Cpl. Abiva was done by the suspect in retaliation for the cop’s continued operation against youth offenders in the area.
