AGENTS of the Philippine National Police Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) and the Southern Police District early morning yesterday arrested a Makati City policeman and a local traffic enforcer accused of robbery-extortion during an entrapment operation in the city, a report to PNP chief, Director General Oscar D. Albayalde said.
PNP-IMEG director, Colonel Romeo M. Caramat Jr. identified the two suspects as Patrolman John Lagao Felix, a member of the Makati City Police Station 2 Mobile Patrol Division and traffic enforcer Jason Parcon.
Caramat said the two were arrested during an entrapment operation along Palm Avenue, Makati City at 1:05 a.m. yesterday which was conducted by PNP-IMEG operatives with the support of the SPD District Special Operations Unit under Brigadier General Eliseo DC Cruz.
The PNP-IMEG director said they launched the sting following complaints that the two are demanding P100 daily from truck drivers entering Dasmariñas Village in Makati City although the drivers have the necessary permits to enter the posh subdivision each time they deliver construction supplies.
“We have found out that the two suspects have been requiring truck drivers to pay P100 for every truck entering the subdivision for more than a month already and this illegal activity prompted the truck owners to report the extortion activity of the two,” Caramat said.
During the entrapment operation, the two suspects were arrested shortly after they received P600 in marked bills from one of the complainants.
The two were immediately whisked to the PNP-IMEG headquarters for booking and documentation pending the filing of criminal and administrative charges against them.
Caramat said they will recommend to the SPD leadership the filing of administrative charges for grave misconduct against Pat. Felix, the latest erring policeman to be busted by the PNP-IMEG this year in line with the stepped-up internal cleansing drive ordered by Albayalde.
