POLICE arrested four young men over the death of a 50-year-old man they beat up, along with the latter’s two friends, before dawn yesterday in Caloocan City.
Caloocan police chief P/Col. Noel Flores identified the arrested suspects as Rolly John Alave, 24, Raky Pacite, 24, both of Nirvana St., Tugatog, Malabon City, Benmar Carita, 23 and Rogelio Baraquillo, 20, of General Pio, Bgy. 78, Caloocan City.
They were charged with the murder of Richard Gregorio of Brgy. Tugatog, Malabon City who succumbed to severe head injury while being rushed to Caloocan City Medical Center, His two companions identified as Simplicio Navarro, 49, and Lusitito Bayan, 50, also residents of Malabon City were treated with contusions in the body at the same hospital.
Col. Noel Flores said the victims were walking along McArthur Highway at around 3 a.m. when the suspects, who were all under the influence of liquor, blocked their path in front of SM Hypermarket in Monumento Circle and confronted them for still unknown reason.
During confrontation, one of the suspects allegedly smashed the head of Gregorio with a hard object before they started to beat up the victims.
Bayan, who was able to run, sought the help of patrolling elements of Caloocan Police Mobile Patrol Unit (MPU) and with the assistance of Traffic Management Reaction Unit (TMRU), they were able to arrest the suspects.
