A MUSLIM couple engaged in the jewelry business were robbed and killed by still unidentified robbers in a daring ambush Thursday evening in Pasay City.
Pasay Muslim Consultative Council President Sultan Haji Unnos Labay said the slain couple, identified as Kulingan Haji Jamil Saad and Junaid Haji Farhan Saad, both residents of Pasay City, died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds.
An initial report received by Southern Police District (SPD) Director P/Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Peralta showed that while the victims were on board a Hyundai Santa Fe sports utility vehicle (NAV-5896) and traversing along Ortigas St. Brgy. 76 at around 6:25 p.m. on their way home, unidentified armed men on board a motorcycle blocked their path and peppered them with bullets.
Sultan Labay said after the killing, one of the suspects took the vault inside the vehicle allegedly containing jewelry and cash before they sped away towards EDSA.
Witnesses Liza Magtibay, legal age and resident of Ortigas St. and Jonathan De Jesus, 42, caretaker of China Bank Ortigas St. branch told police that a group of men allegedly wearing PNP uniforms boarded their motorcycles parked along Ortigas St. before they heard a burst of gunfire from the direction of the victim’s vehicle.
Another member of the Pasay Muslim Consultative Council Khalid Hassan told police that the victims, who owned a jewelry store in Manila, had no known enemies. He added that he had known the couple for a long time and they usually carried cash and jewelry amounting to more or less P15 million when returning home from their store.
Elements of the Pasay Police Sub-Station 5 led by P/Capt. Elmer Accatan immediately conducted a follow-up operation but they failed to identify and arrest the suspects.
