November 21, 2018

A couple and a 19-year-old bachelor were nabbed by members of the Marikina police after they were caught selling illegal drugs during a buy-bust operation Tuesday night.

In a report submitted to Eastern Police District (EPD) director Chief Supt. Bernabe Balba, the suspects were identified as Exan Cabugatan, alias Opaw, 39 and wife Johaira, alias Joh, 26, both of 43 Singkamas St., Bgy. Tumana, Marikina City, and Aslani Maripaga, alias Tago, 19, of  Phase 1, Bgy Bagong Silang, Caloocan City.

Insp. Greco Gonzales, chief of Marikina Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU), said the trio were nabbed during a buy-bust operation inside the couple’s house in Bgy Tumana at 9:40 p.m.

Gonzales said the arrest came after a week of surveillance after they received information about the continuous drug-peddling activities of the Cabugatan couple, using their house as selling point.

Police swooped down on the house of Cabugatan where a cop posing as buyer was able to strike a deal with the couple and bought an undetermined amount of illegal drugs.

When the couple and the teenager handed the illegal drugs to the police poseur-buyer, other operatives strategically positioned in the area nabbed them.

Authorities seized 19 more heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and marked money used in the operation.

Gonzales said the couple were listed on the Marikina Police Station’s drug watchlist as newly-identified drug pushers in their barangay.

The suspects were detained at Marikina police jail, facing charges for violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
