THREE suspected ISIS sympathizers were arrested in a series of anti-terror raids early yesterday morning in Parañaque City and Cainta, Rizal.
PNP-CIDG director Major General Amador V. Corpus said the operations led by the CIDG National Capital Region Office headed by Lieutenant Colonel Arnold Thomas C. Ibay resulted in the arrest of Norodin Abolkhair Manalinding, Cairoden Monatao Abolkhair and Tagoranao Dimaro Sarip Jr.
Both Manalinding and Abolkhair were arrested by combined operatives of the Southern District Field Unit of the CIDG-NCR, the Manila Police District, Southern Police District and Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines on Rimas Street in Barangay Baclaran, Parañaque City at around 3:30 a.m.
Recovered from the suspects’ possession were two loaded caliber .45 pistols with six bullets, one 9m semi-automatic pistol with nine bullets, a fragmentation grenade and a black tactical sling bag.
Ibay said the two have been identified as members of the Daulah Islamiyah Ranao, an ISIS-inspired extremist group operating in Mindanao.
A follow-up operation at around 6 a.m. resulted in the arrest of Sarip on Block 3, Lot 2, in Goldland Eastwood Subdivision in Bgy. Sto. Domingo, Cainta, Rizal.
The suspect yielded a cal. .45 pistol with four bullets, a hand grenade and an ISIS flag.
Ibay said they raided the suspect’s residence on the strength of a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 and RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 issued by Judge Cynthia R. Mariño-Ricablanca of Branch 4 of Sta. Cruz, Laguna Regional Trial Court.
According to Ibay, Sarip is believed to be a member of the Maute Group which is also supporting the ISIS. “He was a propagandist and a media cell member responsible for spreading the propaganda of the ISIS Group,” the official said.
However he said the suspects had no plans to disrupt the elections in Metro Manila on Monday.
