Customs NAIA intercepts US-grade shabu at FedEx warehouse

ALERT Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) intercepted some 87 grams of imported shabu from USA hidden in two separate packages with an estimated value of P600.000 at the FedEx Warehouse in Pasay City.

NAIA-customs district collector Mimel Talusan said customs intercepted packages of shabu declared as “gift puzzle game board” and “puzzle game made of cardboard” as a gift for a consignee in  Albay and Cabanatuan City.

However, upon physical examination of the misdeclared packages, sachets containing crystalline substances were found concealed inside the puzzle game boards. Subsequent field tests conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) confirmed the seized substances as shabu, Talusan said.

Two other misdeclared bottles of Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK), a controlled chemical, identified by the PDEA as essential ingredients in the production of shabu or methamphetamine hydrochloride, were similarly seized for lack of Import Permit from PDEA. The controlled precursors were illegally imported into the country from Taiwan.
