A 60-year-old man said to be suffering from mental depression reportedly killed himself at the Estrada mausoleum Monday at the Manila South Cemetery.
SPO1 Joseph Kabigting of the Manila Police District-homicide section said victim Jose Santander, who was among the people living in cemetery, was found dead at 6:10 a.m. in front of the Estrada mausoleum in a kneeling position with a green nylon cord looped around his neck.
Residents in the area said the victim was last seen at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday while trying to commit suicide but he was prevented by his relative identified as Minda Pasana.
The next day, Santander’s body was found by Rosenda Castro who was then passing by the area. She immediately informed the cemetery’s authorities about the victim’s death.
