Departing passenger dies at NAIA

A 58-year-old man was found dead astride a toilet seat yesterday at the Terminal 3 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.

According to Connie Bungag, chief of the public affairs office, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) immediately sent a medical team after receiving an emergency call that a man was found lifeless in a comfort room at around 8:19 a.m.

The victim identified as Richard Alexander Parenas, was found at the comfort room No. 302 located at the domestic wing of the pre-departure area.  He was reportedly astride on the toilet seat, already without a pulse, unresponsive to any form of verbal or physical stimulation and with dilated pupils.

Bungag said the victim was a departing passenger of Flight 5J-875 bound for Davao. Upon inquiry from the airline, the victim checked in at Cebu Pacific at 5:26 a.m.

Joal Paul Mortel of the Field Men janitorial agency said the victim entered the toilet at around 6:15 a.m. and never came out.

Parenas was declared dead on the scene and was referred to the MIAA’s Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID), T2 Airport Police Terminal Office (T2 APD), Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) personnel.
