DOE: Brace for big hike in LPG prices

September 26, 2019

THE Department of Energy (DOE) advised consumers to buy their liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) before the end of the month due to an impending price increase of cooking gas.

The DOE said prices of LPG is expected to increase by P5 per kilogram effective next month because of an uptrend in contract prices of LPG on the global market following drone attacks on two major oil facilities of state-run Saudi Aramco in Saudi Arabia.

Since a standard LPG cylinder weighs 11 kilos, a P5 increase would translate to P55 for every cooking gas tank which means consumers will spend around P700 per cylinder from the previous P640 plus.

Adjustments in LPG prices usually took effect every end of the month depending on the international contract prices of cooking gas.
