A suspected drug personality who has still a pending case for illegal drugs was killed by riding-in-tandem criminals Sunday night in Malabon City.
Malabon police chief Senior Supt. Jes-sie Tamayao said Virgilio Cardenas, 46, of 45 Jacinto St., Marulas, Valenzuela City, died on the spot from multiple bullet wounds in the body while the unidentified assailants immediately escaped after the killing.
Investigation conducted by PO3 Julius Mabasa and PO3 Jose Romeo Germinal II showed that while the victim was walking along Sitio 6, Bgy. Catmon at 10:20 p.m., the suspects appeared from behind and repeatedly shot him in the head and body, killing him instantly.
Police recovered from the slain victim a cigarette pack containing four heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets of shabu while four empty shells and two deformed bullets for caliber .45 pistol were recovered at the crime scene.
Senior Supt. Tamayao learned that the victim was arrested last year and was charged for violation of Section 5, Article II of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 but was released from jail allegedly after posting bail.
Homicide investigators are looking into the possibility that the killing was drug-related since the victim allegedly continued to peddle illegal drugs after he was released from jail.
