NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office chief Director Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar yesterday commended the Southern Police District headed by Chief Superintendent Eliseo DC Cruz for their latest accomplishment in the Metro Manila police’s all-out war on criminality.
From Thursday to Friday, SPD agents conducted simultaneous operations against illegal firearms and drugs resulting in the killing of two armed suspects in shootouts, the arrest of 20 others and the confiscation of a cache of illegal firearms, shabu and various drug paraphernalia.
“I want similar one-time big-time anti-crime operations to be replicated all over Metro Manila in line with our continuing effort to keep the streets safe 24/7, in line with our program to assure metropolitan residents they could walk the streets safely with criminals always on the run,” said Eleazar.
Cruz said their 48-hour operation was aimed at further reducing crime in identified ‘hot spots’ in Pasay, Makati, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Taguig and Pateros areas.
“We’re focusing our effort in identifying and arresting notorious criminals thru the service of search warrants, warrants of arrest, conduct of buy-bust operations and checkpoints and gun checks,” the member of Philippine Military Academy Class 1990 said.
According to Cruz, seven of the suspects were arrested through the service of search warrants for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 and RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, three were arrested in buy-bust operations and 10 others were arrested in other anti-criminality operations.
The Makati City Police Station headed by Senior Supt. Rogelio P. Simon made the biggest number of arrest with 10.
