NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office chief Director Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar on Wednesday led a peace forum with Muslim community leaders in Metro Manila to seek their full cooperation in thwarting crime and terrorism in the metropolis.
Virtually serving as the eyes and ears of the metropolitan police force, many Muslim leaders have been instrumental in the neutralization of big-time drug trafficking syndicates in their communities or arresting Mindanao-based terrorists who have fled to their communities as a result of the continuing government offensive against them.
Over the past two years, the NCRPO has accounted for a number of suspected terror bombers and improvised explosive devices as well as drug personalities and huge volumes of shabu they stockpiled inside Muslim communities in Quiapo, Manila, Culiat in Tandang Sora, Q.C. and in Taguig City.
The dialogue held at the NCRPO headquarters in Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City, caused Muslim religious and community leaders to renew their individual commitment to follow the previous agreement between them and the NCRPO in Metro Manila.
Eleazar said he called for the meeting in the aftermath of the two separate bombings in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat which killed five persons and wounded 48 others last week.
Eleazar encouraged again the Muslim community leaders to designate a team representative per city so all concerns and issues of each cluster in the NCR can be relayed and discussed with their counterparts or the Salaam Police officers assigned with different NCRPO police stations.)
During the forum, Eleazar urged them to immediately report to the police any suspicious activity or person in their community to prevent possible radicalism or extremism.
