A retired police officer was killed in an ambush staged by two riding-in-tandem criminals Tuesday evening in Navotas City.
Navotas police chief P/Col. Rolando Balasabas identified the slain ex-policeman as Benjamin Ramos, 54, whose last assignment was with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and resident of 101 J.B. Santos St., Wawa, Bgy. Tangos, Navotas city.
Col. Balasabas said the victim was on board his motorcycle and traversing along M. Naval St. at around 7 p.m. when he was attacked by two motorcycle riding men wearing black jackets and full faced helmets at the corner of Rajah Bagunda St., Bgy. Daanghari. The victim died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds in the body while the suspects immediately sped off towards Brgy. San Roque.
Sources said the victim, who was a known cockfight aficionado, was earlier banned from entering Matadero Cockpit Arena in Navotas City due to his alleged bad habit of cursing fighting cocks owner when their game fowl loses in a fight, along with the money he bet in cockfighting.
Col. Balasabas said homicide investigators are still conducting a follow-up investigation to determine the motive of the killing and the identity of the suspects.
