A member of a gun-for-hire group who continued to extort money from his former lover was gunned down in a shootout with police Saturday before noon in Malabon city.
Richard Delos Reyes, alias “Taguro” of Damata Compound, Bgy. Tonsuya succumbed to bullet wounds in the body while being rushed to Ospital ng Malabon.
Malabon police duty desk officer P/Capt. Carlos Cosme, Jr. said that earlier at around 10:30 a.m. couple Josefina Nual and her husband Ramir, both 45 years old and residents of 22 M. Aquino St. Bgy. Niugan, sought police assistance after the suspect threatened to kill them if they failed to give the money he was demanding.
Malabon police Intelligence Unit chief P/Lt Rolando Domingo and his men responded to the area and were able to catch Delos Reyes who instead of surrendering fired successive shots towards the lawmen.
After a brief exchange of gunfire, Delos Reyes was hit in the body and was declared dead by attending physician at Ospital ng Malabon.
Capt. Cosme said the suspect, a known toughie who was included in the police drug watch list and Josefina had a previous romantic affair during the latter’s unstable relationship with her husband.
However, when Josefina and her husband reconciled, the suspect continued to extort money from her and in one occasion even mauled Ramir when the latter intervened.
The couple decided to seek the help of police after the suspect demanded again P3,000 from Josefina and even threatened to kill the couple.
