A 40-year-old man and his 10–year old son were burned to death when trapped inside their house while three other members of his family were severely injured in more than 30-minutes blaze in Pasig City early morning Tuesday.
Reports from Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) showed the fatalities identified as Rodolfo Eguillos and his son Paul Jacob, They were charred beyond recognition when discovered by firemen during mopping operation.
Rodolfo’s wife Fercilina Eguillos, and other children Maria Antonette, 18 and John Rofer , 16 sustained 3rd and first degree burns in different parts of their body and now confined at the Medical City Hospital.
Pasig City Fire Marshal, Supt Douglas Guiyab, said the blaze struck at the two-storey house of Eguillos at No. 116 Villa Tupaz Street, Bgy San Joaquin at around 1:10 am.
Guiyab said, prior to the incident Rodolfo’s mother in-law a certain Merlina was informed by their neighbors that they saw thick smoke coming from the house of Eguillos.
“Mahimbing daw natutulog yung pamilya kasi madaling araw na kaya ginising kaagad sila ng biyenan ni Rodolfo na yung bahay katabi lang nila.,” Guiyab told Journal Group.
The Eguillos family immediately ran out from their burning house through an aircon hole, However the father and son were not able to pass through the hole and were trapped inside their house.
“Nung nakalabas na yung tatlong miyembro ng pamilya ni Rodolfo at kasunod na silang mag–ama hindi na nila nagawa makalusot sa butas kasi malaki na ang buga ng apoy kaya nakulong na silang mag-ama,” Guiyab added.
Guiyab said the fire immediately spread in the whole house of Eguillos which is made of light materials.
The blaze lasted for more than 30 minutes as it reached first alarm before it was put out at around 1:50 am.
Authorities said the damage of the blaze was estimated at P200,000.
Arson investigators are now conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
