Fish vendor shot dead

June 20, 2019

A 51-year-old fish vendor was shot and killed by still unidentified assailants in what police believed was politically motivated yesterday before dawn in Malabon City.

Ernie Villazur, native of Bgy. Danao, Balud, Masbate and resident of 17 Pat M. Cabrera St., Bgy. San Roque, Navotas City died on the spot from bullet wounds in the chest and left side of the chin while the two unidentified gunmen immediately escaped towards an unknown direction.

Malabon police chief P/Col. Jessie Tamayao said the incident happened at around 2:10 a.m. along Estrella St., Bgy. Tañong while the victim was pushing his cart full of fish products.

Before the victim reached the Malabon Public Market, two unidentified armed men suddenly blocked his path and at close range shot him twice in the chest and chin, killing him instantly.

Col. Tamayao said the victim was a known supporter of a candidate in the recent mid-term election in his hometown in Masbate and for unknown reason, he received several death threats, prompting him to leave his native place.

Police said Villazur arrived in Navotas City last June 1 when he decided to engage in fish selling.

Investigators are still conducting a follow-up operation for possible identification and arrest of the suspects.
