POLICE arrested a fish vendor who smashed the head and body of his drinking buddy with sledgehammer following their heated altercation Monday evening in Navotas City.
Navotas police chief P/Col. Rolando Balasabas said he immediately ordered a manhunt against Mario Manago, 50, of Leongson St., Bgy. San Roque, after the family of Ernesto Paracale, 40, of 46 Katipunan St., Brgy. Bayan-bayanan, Malabon City reported the incident yesterday morning, Tuesday, to the police.
Operatives of the Navotas Police Sub-Station 2 led by P/Lt. Dumangas were able to arrest the suspect along Leongson Street, Bgy. San Roque and recovered from him the sledgehammer he used in hitting the victim.
Investigation conducted by P/Cpl Paul Roma and P/Cpl Dandy Sargento showed that while the suspect, together with Paracale and witness Mark Joseph Abuan, were having a drinking session along Leongson Street at around 6 p.m. Monday, a heated altercation ensued between Manago and the victim, prompting Abuan to pacify them.
The suspect decided to leave but returned after a few minutes already armed with sledgehammer and repeatedly hit Paracale in the head and body.
The suspect escaped after seeing the bloodied victim sprawled to the ground.
Paracale was rushed to the Navotas City Hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Balasabas said the suspect was subjected to medical examination before he was presented for inquest proceedings before the Navotas City Prosecutor’s Office on charges of frustrated murder.
