Gun fires off, hits mechanic

A 26-year-old mechanic was seriously wounded when he was hit by accidental firing of gun Saturday evening in Malabon city.

Arvin De Jesus, of No. 4 Talabahan St., Bgy. Baritan was rushed by his sister to Ospital ng Malabon but was later transferred to Tondo Medical Center for surgical treatment of bullet wound in the chest.

Malabon police chief P/Col. Jessie Tamayao said the suspect, identified as Reynante Alcantara, 62, of No 4, Ilang-Ilang St., Bgy. Baritan voluntarily surrendered to Police Community Precinct (PCP) 7, bringing with him his caliber .9mm without magazine after the incident.
Investigation showed that while the victim was attending an early Christmas party of his friend’s daughter at No. 3A Ilang-Ilang Street, a gunfire was heard at around 7 p.m.

The victim later noticed that his chest and back upper portion of his body were already bleeding, prompting her sister to rush him to the hospital.

Alcantara told police investigators that he was checking his firearm when it accidentally went off, hitting their gate and the victim, He also presented to the police his license to own and possess firearm.

The suspect will be charged with serious physical injury due to accidental discharge of firearm before the Malabon City Prosecutor’s Office.
