A GUN-WIELDING man who challenged anyone who crossed his path was shot dead by responding policeman after he threatened to shoot lawmen at dawn Sunday in Valenzuela city.
Charlie Cardona, of legal age, sustained a gunshot wound in the neck and was declared dead by the Valenzuela City Risk Reduction and Management Office Rescue team.
Valenzuela police chief P/Col. Fernando Ortega said that prior to the shooting incident that happened at around 2:30 a.m. along F. Bautista Street Dulo, Bgy. Marulas, desk officer of the Marulas Police Sub-Station-3, received a call from barangay watchman informing that a man with a gun was threatening and challenging anybody to a fight.
When P/Cpl Reynold Panao, P/Cpl Erickson Barrera and Pat. Romel Acas responded to the area, they caught up with the suspect half-naked while holding a gun, prompting the cops to order him to drop his gun, raise his both hands and surrender peacefully.
However, the suspect ignored the lawmen and instead pointed his gun towards the policemen which prompted Cpl. Panao to shoot him, hitting him on his neck.
Case investigators P/MSgt. Herbert A Garcia and P/SSgt. Victor Ilustrisimo said elements of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered from the suspect a caliber .38 revolver with six live bullets in the chamber.
