A SUSPECTED member of gun-running syndicate operating in Pasig City and neighboring provinces was arrested by members of Eastern Police District-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (EPD-CIDG) and seized illegal drugs during an operation at a motel in Pasig City Wednesday night.
Chief Insp. Benigno Meneses, head of EPD-CIDG, identified those arrested as John Medina, of Taytay, Rizal, during an operation at the parking lot of a motel in Bgy. Bagong Ilog, at around 10:50 p.m.
Meneses said Medina is a competitor of Ruben Paglinawan, principal suspect in the killing of Senior Insp. Jimmy Senosin, Cainta deputy police chief, during an operation in Rizal last February 11.
“Sabi n’ya pareho sila ng lakad ni Paglinawan. Kalaban n’ya ’yung grupo ni Paglinawan sa gunrunning and illegal drug pushing activities,” Meneses told Journal Group.
Paglinawan was a member of the gun-for-hire group “Highway Boys Gang”, who was nabbed in Taguig City last Feb. 28.
The operation against Medina was conducted based on the campaign against illegal sale of firearms and to neutralize the operations of gunrunning syndicates in eastern metropolis believed to be suppliers of guns to holduppers and other crime groups.
Based on information, Medina was reportedly involved in selling of firearms in Laguna and Rizal provinces, according to Meneses.
After months of surveillance, police were able to locate the suspect at a motel room in Pasig City. When they confirmed the information, a police poseur-buyer was able to make a deal with Medina for the purchase of a .22-cal. homemade revolver.
A police officer acting as buyer waited in front of a motel and meet the suspect at the parking lot while about to board his vehicle with a judiciary plate.
Before the buyer was about to give the money, he asked the suspect to show the said firearm. After Medina showed the firearm to the poseur buyer, he was arrested by other operatives positioned in the area.
Meneses said aside from the .22 homemade revolver loaded with five bullets, another .9mm Browning pistol with two magazines loaded with 24 live bullets tucked on his waist was seized from him.
Police said the suspect failed to present any necessary documents for the said firearms and ammunition.
Aside from the firearms, at least 25 grams of illegal drugs with estimated street value of P60,000 and several drug paraphernalia were seized from the suspect.
Medina will be charged for violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs of 2002.
