December 17, 2018

A SUSPECTED gun runner involved in peddling illegal drugs was killed in an encounter with authorities during a buy-bust of unlicensed firearm Sunday evening in Malabon City.

Bernard Bautista, alias “Berung”, 59, of Mulawin St. in Bgy. Panghulo, died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds in the body when he opted to engage lawmen in a shootout outside his house in Mulawin Street at around 11 p.m.

Malabon police homicide investigators PO2 Richard Andrew Calaycay and PO2 Jose Romeo Germinal said joint elements of District Special Operation Unit (DSOU) led by Chief Insp. Angelo Nicolas and Northern Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) conducted a buy-bust after a week-long surveillance against the suspect who was also listed in police drug watch list.

However, when the suspect sensed that he was dealing with a police decoy, he drew his firearm and shot the police officer but missed.  A brief exchanged of gunfire ensued until the suspect was hit in the body, killing him instantly.
