A NOTORIOUS drug pusher was killed when he engaged lawmen in a shootout during a buy-bust operation shortly before midnight yesterday in Valenzuela City.

Jessie Cabigas succumbed to bullet wounds in the body while being rushed to Valenzuela Medical Center. His cohort identified as Alfredo Yumol, managed to escape.

Valenzuela police chief Col. David Nicolas Poklay said that around 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, elements of Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) conducted a buy-bust operation against the suspects on Dulong Tangke Street in Bgy. Malinta after more than two weeks of surveillance operation.

However, when the suspects sensed that they were dealing with an undercover policeman, Cabigas drew his firearm and shot the police poseur-buyer who managed to run for cover.

Operatives who were at the perimeter area retaliated and after a brief exchange of gunfire, Cabigas was hit in the body while Yumol managed to flee.

Police recovered from the slain suspect a caliber .38 revolver with five bullets, six plastic sachets containing undetermined quantity of suspected shabu, five plastic sachets of dried marijuana leaves and the P200 marked money.

Col. Poklay said his men are still conducting a follow-up operation for possible arrest of Yumol who will be charged with violation of R.A. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
