A MEMBER of a gun-for-hire group who was extorting money from his former lover was killed in a shootout with police Saturday before noon in Malabon City.
Richard Delos Reyes, alias “Taguro” of Damata Compound, in Bgy. Tonsuya, succumbed to bullet wounds in the body while being rushed to Ospital ng Malabon.
Malabon police duty desk officer P/Capt. Carlos Cosme, Jr. said Josefina Nual and her husband Ramir, of No. 22 M. Aquino St. Bgy. Niugan earlier sought police assistance after the suspect threatened to kill them if they failed to give the amount of money he was demanding.
Malabon police Intelligence Unit chief Lt. Rolando Domingo and his men responded to the area and were about to arrest Delos Reyes but the suspect resisted and fired successive shots at the lawmen.
Capt. Cosme said the suspect, a known toughie and who was included in police drug watch list, had a previous illicit affair with Josefina. When the latter reconciled with her husband, the suspect continued to extort money from her and in one occasion even mauled Ramir when the latter intervened.
