ALL afternoon rain is believed to have softened the earth where a house was under repair causing it to collapse Friday night like a deck of cards killing the owner and five others who were having a drinking spree.
Rushed to the Quezon City General Hospital were Tolibas Rigueros, 31, hauler, owner of the house; Benito Naredo Anora, 45, construction worker; Nilo Joseco, Manguso, 48, security guard; Rey Berbon Diestro, 23, helper, of Gaya-Gaya, Brgy. Bahay Toro, Proj 8; Donald Conde, construction worker, and Johny Surbida Gabin, 52, tinsmith, of Sitio Militar, Brgy. Bahay Toro.
However, they were declared dead on arrival.
Initial report of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) showed at 9:30 p.m. Friday the two-storey house owned by Rigueros on Seminary Road, Sitio Bathala, Brgy. Bahay Toro, Project 8, QC suddenly crumbled while the men were drinking after the day’s work.
The men had no time to escape and fell with the debris of the house into the river beside it.
Because it had rained the whole afternoon prior to the incident police surmised the loosened earth gave way. Also suspected to be a contributing factor were the rusted steel bars found in the ruins.
