AT least 600 devotees who joined yesterday’s “traslacion” of the Black Nazarene were given first aid by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) for various problems.

The number covers only those treated as of 11 a.m.
Of the 600 devotees, 468 were treated for high blood pressure, 163 suffered breathing difficulty or dizziness, while the rest had wounds, injuries and the like.

The worst cases numbered four and were due to deep wounds. Three were rushed to hospital, one for hyprtension while two for losing consciousness.

As of this writing, more were being treated for cuts in their feet.

The PRC stationed about 1,000 volunteers to assist participants in the procession needing help.

The “Traslacion 2019” began at 5:03 a.m. after a mass celebrated by Manila Archbishop Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle at the Quirino Grandstand .

At around 12 noon, the procession had reached Jones bridge and the Manila Police District (MPD) estimated the crowd at around one million.

It was at this point when the procession became snail-paced, owing to more devotees joining the procession.
