THE leader of notorious “Ipit Gang” preying on bus passengers was arrested by police, along with four of his cohorts, shortly after they stole the cellular phones of two bus passengers Thursday night in Makati City.

Makati police chief Senior Supt. Rogelio Simon identified the arrested suspects as Ruel Bautista, 48, of Int. 8 Old Sta Mesa, Manila, the alleged leader of the gang, Romeo Flores, 31, of 77 Cecilia Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City, Ramil Bitoy, 34, of A.P. Aguinaldo St. Bgy. Muzon, Taytay, Rizal, John Paul Perez, 39, of Manalo St., Sta Mesa, Manila and Richie Reyes, 27, of Old Sta. Mesa.

Senior Supt. Simon said Bautista introduced himself as Roel B. Justan but during investigation, they discovered that he was the same person arrested and charged twice in October last year for the same offense but was released after posting bail.

Police recovered from the suspects eight different kinds of cellular phones and assorted colored T-shirts they use in changing their clothes to avoid detection.

Investigation showed that while Allen Karl Casin, 20, of Pasong Camachile 2, General Trias, Cavite and Manuel Abediano, Jr., 45, of Sto Niño 1, Dasmariñas, were on board a Jasper Jean Bus travelling at the southbound lane of EDSA at around 10:45 p.m., they both discovered that their cellular phones were missing, prompting them to ask the bus driver to stop the bus at the corner of Buendia Avenue, Bgy. Bel Air to seek police assistance.
