MANILA Mayor Isko Moreno appealed to barangay chairmen and officials to fulfill their duties and set aside personal differences and politics when it comes to vaccinating their constituents who badly need and deserve to be protected from the coronavirus amid the recent surge in cases.

Moreno made the appeal after receiving reports that there are a couple of chairmen who showed total apathy and lack of interest to have their constituents vaccinated. The mayor vowed to reveal the barangay chiefs’ names and what they have done, when the time comes that they start wooing constituents for votes.

“Ipapaalam ko sa inyo ang ginawa ng chairman pagdating ng halalan nila. Me data kami kung ano ang ginawa nila. May mga chairman, when the team arrived, andiyan na bakuna, nagsalita na wala akong pakialam diyan bahala kayo,” Moreno said, adding that another chairman left the site and did not say a word.

Moreno commended the other barangay chairmen who were responsible and cooperative enough to swiftly provide the needs like tents and chairs and the barangay kagawads who compensated for the inaction of their apathetic chairmen.

Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna and Manila Health Department chief Dr. Arnold Pangan led the vaccination of 1,309 senior citizens over the weekend, during the deployment of the city’s share of donated vaccines in 12 designated sites.

Lacuna, a doctor, helped in administering the vaccines and so far, she said there have been no reported adverse effects on the senior citizens who took the jab.

“Nalulungkot ako dahil chairman ito, dapat katulong n’yo. Kung pagsalitaan ‘yung MHD (Manila Health Department). Di man lang nag-isip linggo, nagtatrabaho. Meron diyan iniwan lang ang barangay, ni ha ni ho wala. Sasabihin ko mga pangalan.. pupunta ako sa barangay ninyo pag sila ay magpapaboto na ulit sa inyo ng pagiging chairman,” Moreno said.

The mayor thanked Lacuna, Pangan, the encoders, vaccinators, assessors and other personnel who assisted in the successful vaccination of senior citizens on a Sunday, without violating any rules set by the government for the purpose.

Moreno said it’s because of apathetic chairmen why some areas register high COVID-19 cases.

“Buti me mga kagaawad na matino, sinasalo. Ito ay kaligtasan ng ka-barangay nyo dahil pag nagkahawa-hawa, uubusin kayo sa barangay alam nyo yan kaya nga may lockdown. Minsan magtataka ka mga barangay ang daming impeksyon. Baka dahil walang paki ang chairman,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, he called on the youngsters to assist their elderly family members so they could register with the manilacovid19vaccine.com and get their slots for the vaccines.

He said that while the city government is accepting walk-ins, being unregistered slows down the process for the entire vaccination program.
