IN anticipation of typhoon ‘Tisoy,’ Mayor Isko Moreno yesterday called on barangay chairmen to help in advising those living in critical areas that may be affected by the oncoming typhoon to take preemptive action in coordination with concerned local government agencies which have also been mobilized for the purpose.
Moreno said Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) chief Arnel Angeles has reported having tapped all departments, bureaus and offices of the city government Manila that have to do with all preparations for typhoon readiness.
Aside from the rescue preparedness and medical teams that are on standby, Angeles said that the city’s evacuation centers have been duly inspected and equipped to accept those who may be displaced by the typhoon.
Moreno also said that the city’s six public hospitals which fall under the supervision of Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna and the Manila Health Department headed by Dr. Arnold Pangan are also on alert should their services be needed.
Social welfare department chief Re Fugoso meanwhile reported to Moreno that her department is also already on standby and prepared to assist those who will be adversely affected by the typhoon, once it hits Manila.
Angeles said MDRRMO is ready to provide timely response, adding that trainings have been conducted to ensure ample preparedness to assist Manila residents in times of emergency situations.
Meanwhile, Moreno suspended classes from pre-school to senior high school in all public and private schools in Manila effective at 12 noon yesterday.
