MANILA Mayor Isko Moreno called on the 896 barangay chairmen in Manila to set aside politics and personal interests in the distribution of the P1,000 cash assistance to 568,000 families in the city.
Speaking before the barangay chairmen in City Hall, Moreno also told them to avoid getting sick as he needs them now.
He also disclosed that recently, two chairmen died of heart problems so that he called on the others to be careful with their health.
“Mayaman, mahirap, middle class. Lahat ng nilagay ninyo sa listahan ay ating isinama. Itabi muna natin ang pulitika. Sana, ‘yung kinaiinisan ninyong kaptbahay, patawarin nýo na. Walang asul, walang dilaw, walang kahil, lahat ay ating binigyan ng ayuda kaya pakiusap ko lang, do your best. I believe and trust in you. It’s your time to shine, barangay,” said Moreno.
Wearing only a short-sleeved shirt, loose shorts and slippers, Moreno, who now sleeps in City Hall, vowed to be behind the barangays all the way, saying they in the city government are working 24/7.
Moreno earlier worked for the realignment of P591.5 million city amelioration crisis assistance fund (CACAF) to provide P1,000 to each of the families identified by the barangays as recipients.
Under the rules, Moreno said the money will be distributed from house to house and not residents going to the chairmen themselves.
Moreno said he trusted the chairmen and did not question the lists they submitted.
