MANILA Mayor Isko Moreno yesterday ordered the filing of charges against parents of children caught violating the ordinances on curfew and the mandatory wearing of face masks.

According to Manila Police District chief Gen. Rolly Miranda said that from March 15, violators of Ordinance No. 8644 or the ‘Mandatory Use of Face Mask in Public’ reached 1,039 and majority are minors. Since July 9, violators of curfew ordinance, Odinance No. 8547, reached 9,367and mostly are also minors.

Moreno said the ordinances were passed by the Manila City Council under Presiding Officer and Vice Mayo Honey Lacuna to protect the public against COVID-19 and minors as well as senior citizens were at high risk of contracting the virus.

Moreno said the parents of children who violated the ordinances should be charged, for being irresponsible, with violation of Ordinance No. 8243 or Anti-Child Endangerment Ordinance of the City Manila.

“Ang pagsusuot ng facemasks ang pinakamabisa at pinaka-available na depensa na meron ang bawat isa sa atin para makaiwas sa COVID-19.  Hindi exempted ang mga bata dito,” Moreno stressed.

Meanwhile, Moreno cited Manila department of social welfare Re Fugoso who rescued about 1,028 streetdwellers, many are also children, with some tested positive for the virus.
