Isko tells new grads: Don’t marry at once

September 20, 2019

“DON’T hurry. Use your time. Utilize it in your favor. Sayang. Enjoy.”

This was the ‘love advice’ given yesterday by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno as he spoke at the 10th Commencement Exercises in  Mapua University, where he called on the new graduates to not immediately jump into marriage right after graduation.

According to Moreno, it would be better for new graduates to focus on and use their youthfulness in establishing a good career.

“Landi-landi mo. Kere-kerengkeng ka diyan. Pag nakita kitang naligaw-ligaw, hihilahin ko ‘yung buhok ng babae sa harapan ng bahay niya para ikahiya ka niya,” Moreno recalled his mother as having told him repeatedly in his younger days, so as to discourage him from courting girls and to finish his studies first.

‘Ano ang nakakahiya? Nakakahiya ‘pag wala kang mapalamon ‘pag nabuntis mo ‘yan,’ Moreno further quoted his mother, adding that he now knows the importance of such guidance and constant reminders.

The mayor said that with love comes expenses so that one has to make sure that he or she is already financially secure before having a family.

“Walang masamang mag-ibigan. Ang masama ay hindi mo tanggapin ang reyalidad ng lipunang inyong kakaharapin.. ‘Wag muna. ‘Wag magmamadali. Iraos niyo muna ang inyong sarili,” Moreno added.
